4 Romantic Things to Do in Gatlinburg for Couples
"World’s Fair Park is another fun destination to take a stroll through. The park surrounding the Sunsphere holds the Tennessee Amphitheater (the only other surviving structure in Knoxville from the 1982 World’s Fair), a lake, a sizable splash-pad fountain, and lots of lush green lawn perfect for hosting festivals and events."
"Set right in the heart of downtown Knoxville, this green space was once the fairgrounds of the 1982 World’s Fair. Today, it serves as a public park, and is one of the can’t-miss free things to do in Knoxville."
"In 1982, the city of Knoxville hosted the World’s Fair, sloganed Energy Turns The World. The organizers worked together with architects local to the area to create an impressive structure that would thematically bring the sun – the greatest source of energy – down to earth and into what we now call World’s Fair Park. The result of this project was The Sunsphere, a huge round object fitted with reflexive glass pane panels, layered with dusted gold, balanced on a tower of hexagonal shape."
"The Sunsphere is an excellent spot to get a bird’s-eye view of Knoxville. It was built for the 1982 World’s Fair. Since then, the structure has gone through many changes, which can be read about in more detail here and here."
"This Knoxville landmark was built for the 1982 World’s Fair. It became a local favorite and stands to this day. After the World’s Fair ended, the Sunsphere closed its doors and remained vacant until 2007."
"This water hike in the Smoky Mountains is only 1.1 miles roundtrip, making it the perfect nature walk for anyone!. The trail is marked, so it is easy to navigate the path. You’ll walk past streams and across a foot bridge."

The 87-acre Sequoyah Hills Park is a runner’s dream come true, perched on the river with scenic views along its paved surface’s entire length. What makes it great : The Sequoyah Greenway, which is unpaved, runs alongside the park and branches off past Kingston Pike, offering lengthier stretches for those who want to get a few miles in, and for visitors who’d rather get on the water than lace up their running shoes, the park offers two put-ins at the river’s edge."
"If you’re up for a solid 12-mile (roundtrip) challenge, head to Sequoyah Park and back. Otherwise, enjoy the relative calm of the Tennessee at your own pace until you’re ready to shower up and ease into the evening with a hearty dinner before a night out on the town.7:00 pm"
"Victor Ashe Park is about a twenty minute drive from where I live, and it wasn’t really on my radar until I met a friend there. This park kicked off my curiosity about all of the other awesome local parks I must be missing out on. While it doesn’t have a splash pad, it has a terrific playground for kids of all ages, a pavilion, an amazing walking trail that goes a little over half a mile around the playground and an enormous field in the middle (4 soccer fields worth — perfect for kite flying), as well as a dog park!"
"If you’re with a real competitive crowd, take your picnic out to Victor Ashe. You’ll find sand volleyball, sports fields, and the most impressive disc golf course Knox County has to offer. Set up a picnic spot at one of their tables, and grab some fuel at the concession stand if you’re still hungry after a game."

"Poor service, waited forever for food, appetizer came out after the meal, food was overcooked and greasy. Don't waste your time or money."
"If you only had one meal in Knoxville, this just may be the one. Awarded by the James Beard Foundation for Best Chef Southeast, Chef Joseph Lynn’s wood-fired Appalachian flavors permeate the weekly a la carte menus, paired with quite the impressive beverage list. Temporarily closed for renovations, the restaurant is slated to reopen on July 7, 2021."
"Foodies looking for the best in local cuisine should head to J.C. Holdway, winner of the 2013 James Beard Award for Best Chef Southeast. J.C. Holdway represents an authentic Knoxville dining experience."
"Bistro seemingly has it all – history, great food, a cozy and intimate wood-and-brick interior and a hip owner in Martha Boggs. While legions of downtown restaurants have come and gone, Bistro has been an urban staple since 1980. Housed in the fourth-oldest building (circa 1820) in Knoxville, the Bistro offers three seasonal menus featuring locally sourced vegetables and products."
"Those in search of a meatless meal don't have to exert too much effort sifting through menu selections for suitable items. At Bistro at the Bijou, they have a separate menu for vegetarian and vegan diners. The lunch/dinner lineup runs the gamut, from white truffle fries and a house salad to veggie burgers and a sweet potato kale wrap."

Be sure to make reservations at The Wild Plum at least 24 hours in advance."
