Haleakalā National Park
4.8 (7545 ratings)5 (2032 ratings)
10,023-foot dormant volcano offers spectacular sunrise views & glimpses of local endangered birds.
"I’m a big fan of Molokini Crater, which has an inner protected area for snorkeling. You’re safe from swell and the water clarity is far better than off the shore. Molokini is also a reserve, so the ocean life is diverse and abundant. We love making the trip to Molokini, which is only a few miles off shore."
"Start the day with an express tour of snorkeling at Molokini Crater, as some boats, like Kai Kanani, have you back before 9 a.m. From there just focus on one part of the island, whether it’s experiencing Lahaina, beach-hopping in Wailea or simply taking the entire day to drive the Road to Hana."
"We selected the Molokini Crater and Turtle Arches Tour with the Pacific Whale Foundation and could not have been happier. The staff was friendly, the gear was clean and fit well, and the included lunch, while nothing fancy, hit the spot."

"Tucked in the shadows of the iconic banyan tree, Lahaina’s 1859 courthouse is a repository of history and art. Its location beside the harbor is no coincidence: smuggling was so rampant during the whaling era..."
"There are plenty of good spots along the coast, off Ka’anapali Beach or the beach parks just outside of Lahaina, like Launiupoko Beach Park. If you’ve never done either before, I’d recommend getting a lesson."
"You’ll get a great view from the Kaumahina State Wayside and you can use the bathroom there too. Continuing on, you’ll catch a glimpse of black sand beach at Honomanu Bay (but the views better on the way back)."

"Check out the listings for the historic Iao Theater nearby, or the concerts and festivals at Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Both venues are bound to give you a fresh taste of Maui’s magnetism."

"Our day ended at Waianapanapa State Park. Spending a night (or two), is definitely necessary if you want the real Road to Hana experience. But since hotel prices can be high, we decided to camp at Waianapanapa. Having its perfect black sand beach to ourselves was definitely worth sleeping on the hard ground."
Maluaka Beach
4.7 (871 ratings)
Public oceanside access with soft sand, snorkeling among reefs, sea life & restrooms.
"From north to south: Makena Landing, Maluaka Beach (aka Turtle Town), Big Beach, and ‘Ahihi-Kina’u Natural Area Reserve. And we ended up seeing sea turtles at each of those beaches except Turtle Town (which seemed a bit ironic)."
