7 Best Boston Cream Pies (and Cakes and Doughnuts)
"Sofra is technically a cafe, but instead of stale croissants and someone sitting on a laptop in the corner, it has a bunch of Turkish mezze plus other specialties. The menu is pretty big but we like the beet hummus, sugar snap peas with pistachio and mint, shakshuka, and sausage pita. This tiny place is always crowded (at least when the patio isn’t open) but that’s because you could easily have three great meals in here every day (though it closes at 7, so you might want to get dinner to-go)."
"A must stop if visiting Boston and a great treat to the locals. Sofra has wonderful Turkish breakfast, incredible pastries (try one of the seasonal biscuits),..."
"Mamaleh's has everything you could possibly need for an epic Thanksgiving meal at home. Place your order for pick-up and you and yours can sit down to turkey and all the fixin's (stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy) with extras (like tahini cookies, rugelach, beer, wine and cocktails). Availability: Order asap for pickup or delivery on Tuesday, November 24th or Wednesday, November 25th from 10:00am-8:00pm"
"This casual Observatory Hill bakery — which has a second location in Porter Square — is run by René and Cynthia Becker, who also operate Italian spot Luce in Porter Square. Hi-Rise has been around since 1996, serving a wide array of sandwiches and breakfast dishes, all with bread made in-house. The Concord Avenue location also serves packaged to-go dinner entrees and sides on weeknights from 4:30 p.m."
"Say hello to fresh pies, coconut macaroons, baked breads, doughnuts, cupcakes, cookies, meringue pies, and so much more from this Cambridge bakery, which has two locations. Hi-Rise also serves non-sweets, like salads and sandwiches, if you're into that sort of thing."
"If you’re looking for a sweet spot in Boston to satisfy your sugar cravings, you’ll find it at Violette Gluten Free Bakery in Cambridge. The dedicated gluten-free bakery conjures up everything you’d hope for and more. Everything from gluten-free cupcakes with buttercream frosting, to cakes, biscotti, macarons, ice-cream sandwiches, cookies, and artisan breads."
"Gluten-free bakery Violette is still cranking out cupcakes, brownies, and pizza for takeout and delivery 10am-7pm Tue-Fri, and 9am-5pm on Saturday. They’re also doing delivery rounds - check their website for more information."
"The truck changes locations throughout the week, but on #NationalCookieDay this Friday, December 4th, there will be 2 trucks, one on each side of the Rose Kennedy Greenway. One truck will be in Dewey Square just steps from the South Station T stop. The other truck will be by the Greenway Carousel by the Aquarium T stop, Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, and Faneuil Hall Marketplace."
"Status: All locations are open for takeout and delivery, as well as indoor and outdoor seating. Whether it’s espresso or an espresso martini, the spacious, vaguely steampunk Chinatown-adjacent location has your fuel. The large bar (which boasts free Wifi, by the way) is our favorite outpost of this Salem-based roasting company, though it also branches on the North Shore, in the Back Bay, in the South End, and in Tokyo."
"There is something about Jaho that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. It could be the delicious coffee, tasty food, friendly staff, classic coffee bar aesthetic, or maybe all of the above. Jaho has a range of single-origin beans at very competitive prices, so if you find one you like, you can pick up a bag on your way out."
"Taste Wine Bar has a takeout and delivery menu that includes things like braised beef shank, pâté, and charcuterie platters - place your order on Uber Eats."
"Greystone is a new cafe in the South End that serves a whole range of homemade pastries, like apple cake and spinach and feta galette. For now, the cafe is running only as a takeout window, but will eventually become a sit-down lunch and dinner spot as well."
"The ice cream: For your gelato fix, check out Athan’s denser, richer scoop in flavors like baklava, green tea and praline. The dessert shop and bakery also serves up water-based sorbets, if you’re looking for dairy-free options."
"Speaking of scallion pancake sandwiches—the saucy fried chicken-stuffed, wrap-style rendition ($8) at Bess’s Café in Brookline is on the crispy-and-flaky end of the spectrum, solid enough to be a meal but light enough to entertain the possibility of dumplings on the side. The casual, friendly eatery boasts a menu packed with tasty Chinese dishes—from noodles to buns to soups—that rarely exceed $10. For a simpler snack, pop in for a crispy scallion pancake; without the meat filling, it’ll only set you back $4."

"Sweet Rice, with locations in both JP and Charlestown, has an extensive menu with Thai and Japanese options. There’s a seemingly infinite number of rolls to choose from, including one that pays homage to our favorite underwater character, SpongeBob. Sushi party boats for four people are available as well."
"Thai and Japanese restaurant Sweet Rice is open for takeout and delivery on Caviar and Grubhub, which means you can pair your chirashi bowl with a side of tom yum soup."
